Baby Pool Redux

[UPDATE: I’ve bumped this post up, and edited it slightly, to encourage entries. -ed.]

As most of you know, Baby Girl Loy #2, a.k.a. “Loyacita,” is due on July 8. As we did with “Loyette,” we’re running a Baby Pool to predict the little one’s birth date, time, weight and height.

The deadline to enter (or modify your previous entry) is 11:59 PM MDT today (Wednesday, June 24). Please leave your guesses in comments on this post, including:

• The DATE of birth
• The TIME of birth, in Mountain Daylight Time
• The WEIGHT at birth, in pounds and ounces (guesses will be rounded to the ounce)
• The HEIGHT at birth, in inches (guesses will be rounded to the nearest inch or half-inch)

Prior to launching this blog, I set up a Baby Pool over on Facebook earlier this month. We’ve got 64 entries already — but, now that I’ve got a blog again, the contest has a chance to grow even bigger.

And, seeing as how Becky isn’t actually due until July 8, and only two contestants guessed dates earlier than June 29 (Evana Young guessed June 14, Becky’s birthday; and I guessed today, June 23, figuring the baby’s arrival would mess up my blog relaunch plans, heh), it strikes me that it wouldn’t do any great harm to re-open entries for an additional 24 hours or so, to allow my blog readers to participate.

Soooo, again, anyone wishing to enter the baby pool has until 11:59 PM MDT Wednesday (June 24) to do so, in comments on this post. Likewise, anyone who already entered the pool may modify their predictions until the new deadline — except Evana and me. We’re stuck with our original guesses.

One caveat: if Becky goes into labor before the new deadline, then this extension is cancelled, and we revert back to the original set of guesses that were posted on Facebook. 🙂

Either way, there will be separate “winners” for date/time and for weight/height, as explained below:

DATE/TIME POOL:

The primary object of the date/time contest is to get the birth date right, so…

• If only one person guesses the correct birth date, that person will be the winner, regardless of the predicted time.

• If more than one person guesses the correct birth date, the birth time will be used as a tiebreaker, but only between the people who guessed the correct date. (That means, e.g., if the baby is born at 12:01 AM on July 4, somebody who predicted 6:00 AM on July 4 would beat somebody who predicted 11:59 PM on July 3.)

• If nobody guesses the correct birth date, then the winner will be the person whose predicted date and time was the closest to the actual birth date and time, regardless of how many calendar days it was off by.

WEIGHT/HEIGHT POOL:

As for weight/height, because there isn’t much variation in height predictions (and thus, a multi-way tie is virtually guaranteed in a pure height-prediction contest), I’ll simply use height as a tiebreaker in the event there’s a tie in predicting the weight.

June 27 – Becky has a hippie tinctures class that she wants to go to, and we’ve been invited to a BBQ
July 1 – Canada Day; Becky’s parents arrive from Arizona to help with the new baby
July 4 – Independence Day
July 8 – Official due date, per Becky’s math
July 10 – Due date according to first-trimester ultrasound
July 14 – Bastille Day
July 15 – Brendan is supposed to fly to North Carolina for his cousin Charis’s wedding
July 17 – Charis’s wedding / Harry Potter movie debuts

(It’s unlikely the baby would be born much after that, since they would probably induce labor if Becky were much more than a week late.)
